Taroko Trails is the home and playground of the Complete Athlete.

 

Trail Wolf Running Club

The Trail Wolf Running Club has runs at Taroko Trails every Wednesday evening, with a beer and burger social once a month, as well as informal social runs every Saturday and Sunday morning. Once a month the runs will be on a Thursday evening, on the bike tracks where we can discuss and practice navigation skills.

Running events will be held here on a regular basis.

Taroko Trail park forms part of the Modderfontein Nature Reserve. It boasts a host of habitats like wetland systems, grassland, forests and rocky outcrops. The reserve has over 260 different species of birds, including various herons, blue cranes, fish eagles and an assortment of waterfowl. Amongst other inhabitants, the cape otter, meercats, black-backed jackel and antelope species such as duikers can be spotted in the reserve.

These snakes are environmental indicators, showing that the environment is fairly healthy as the food chain is intact.

FAQs

  • Not at all! In fact, even if you have never run on any surface other than tar, these trails are suitable for everyone. There are a variety of courses, some technical, but most are not, with different distances.

  • Free access to Taroko Trails any time during opening hours (normal cost is R40). Safe and well-marked trails - run alone or in a group. There is no such thing as a free lunch but there is a free technical running shirt, 10% off coffee and discounts on running events.

  • Every Wednesday night the park is open until 10pm. ‘Working late‘ is no longer a valid excuse! Once a month, there will be a ‘'burger and beer’ run, informational evenings. Officially organised social runs.
